Vases and flowers are lined up in the receiving area of the Sarah S. Brayton Nursing Center in Fall River this week

WESTPORT — Smiles may be hard to find these days as the world moves to combat the Covid-19 crisis.

A Westport business is trying to do all it can to put smiles on the faces of those who need it most; nursing home residents who are unable to receive visitors.

Rapoza’s Florist & Greenhouse has been delivering flowers and vases to Sarah S. Brayton Nursing Center in Fall River for the past three days and will now start delivering to Alden Court in Fairhaven.

“We were told that the recipients … were so touched by this gesture and very appreciative. Let’s keep kindness going strong!!” Rapoza’s staff wrote on its Facebook page this week with photos of the flowers being delivered to Brayton.

The business started the project on Facebook on Monday, asking the public to sponsor vases and flowers to be delivered to the nursing center. According to its Facebook posts, anyone in the public can sponsor a vase for $15, which covers the cost of the vase and flowers, and Rapoza’s will deliver it to the nursing center for free.

Deliveries are left outside the front door of the nursing center to ensure there is no contact with staff or residents.

Rapoza’s is looking for people in the community to sponsor vases, and is seeking other nursing homes or assisted living centers who are interested in receiving the flowers. Rep. Paul Schmidt recently sponsored some vases, and Rapoza’s is hoping more people in the community will do the same.

To sponsor a vase or for more information about the project, visit Rapoza’s Florist & Greenhouse on Facebook or call 508-636-3791.

How awesome it’s great to see the good in people. The nurses and CNA’s are putting themselves at risk to take care of the people who need them most. This includes my husband that I haven’t seen in 15 days.He doesn’t understand why because he suffers from LBD, but I speak to him often because the staff takes him by the hand and explains to him I’m on the phone wipes his tears and makes him feel safe and loved . A big thank you for the staff at Sarah Brayton Home
