South Coast fatal crash victim remembered for love of cars and motorcycles as family endures second tragedy in 3 years

A young man who died Monday following a single occupant motorcycle crash in Wareham is being remembered.

According to Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz, at just after 6:45 p.m., Wareham Police received initial reports of a serious motorcycle crash near Charge Pond Road.

Cristian Hagopian was pronounced deceased about two hours later after being transported to an area hospital for treatment.

Through interviewing witnesses, Wareham Police and Massachusetts State Police learned Hagopian had been with a group of other people riding motorcycles together when he crashed into a wooded area near his home. Witnesses stated no other motorcycle riders were near Hagopian during the crash.

A GoFundMe fundraiser was organized for expenses and has raised over $24,000 in 4 days.

The family released the following to Fall River Reporter when asked about Hagopian.

“He was a bright, talented 23-year-old young man. The son of Richard and Kristin Hagopian, he grew up in Wareham, MA with a love of all machines with wheels. His interests grew from skateboards and scooters to cars and motorcycles. He had a curiosity of how things worked and did not stop until he knew that answer and how to fix them when they didn’t. He could repair just about anything. He also loved to rescue anyone who needed help with their motorcycle or vehicle. He was going through training to ultimately become a Master Mechanic. He most recently held a position at Colonial Ford in Plymouth. When he wasn’t tinkering with vehicles/motorcycles he was riding them. He loved to ride with his friends.

“Cristian also had a passion for music and traveling with friends. He would be willing to go anywhere the wind would take him on any given day. His dream was to one day go to Japan. Hopefully someone in his family or circle of friends will be able to make that trip in honor of him someday.

“Cristian had an older brother, Tré Hagopian who unfortunately passed away in 2023 from a rare cancer at the age of 21. (https://www.legacy.com/us/obituaries/name/richard-hagopian-obituary?id=52577022)

“The family feels comfort knowing that he is united with his brother now. He has a younger sister Jordann Hagopian, 20 yrs old, who has had to endure the loss of another brother in a short amount of time.

“Since the fundraiser began shortly after Cristian’s death the immediate and overwhelming community response has been nothing short of amazing. Family, friends and people who were just touched by the story have given support to the family in many ways. They are beyond grateful for the amount of funds raised that will help with most of the funeral and burial expenses. This is a prime example of the saying “It takes a village.” Cristian’s obituary and service information will be published by Chapman Funeral Home (Wareham location) shortly.”

The incident is under investigation, and the State Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has jurisdiction of the case.
