Massachusetts mother keeps son’s memory alive, fights for justice, as ex-boyfriend indicted in 7-year-old’s death
As a Massachusetts man is indicted for murder, a mother has been making sure her son is not forgotten and justice is served.
Last week, a Worcester County Grand Jury handed up an indictment for murder against 35-year-old Steven Stuart, of Auburn, for the death of 7-year-old Jayden Carlson, according to Worcester County District Attorney Joseph Early, Jr.
In September of 2015, Stuart, who was a live-in boyfriend, was convicted of assault and battery on a child causing serious bodily injury, stemming from an incident involving Carlson, that occurred in August of 2012. As a result of that case, Stuart was sentenced to 6 to 8 years in state prison.
Carlson, who was 2 years old at the time of the assault, sustained severe, life-altering injuries and subsequently experienced ongoing medical complications. Five years later, in December of 2017, he passed away as a result of those injuries.
Stuart was arraigned in Worcester County Superior Court on one count of murder and held without bail.
While the murder charge may be recent, Jayden’s mother and other family members have never stopped thinking of him or keeping his memory alive.
After his death, the non-profit Jayden’s Keys 4 Happiness was formed to give back to the community who gave so much to the Carlson family in their time of need.
JK4H does random acts of kindness in his honor with help from community donations, from making Christmas brighter for those less fortunate, to collecting teddy bears to donate, to paying for random people’s birthday cakes at a local bakery on Jayden’s birthday, February 11th.
Fall River Reporter asked the non-profit what they wanted the public to know about Jayden.
“Jayden was a blessing to our family. We are relieved to hear of Steven Stuart’s arrest. We want everyone to know that Jayden had a loving caring family that will fight for Justice for Jayden.”
Jayden also made many friends with the Southbridge Fire Department, especially the ambulance EMT’s and Paramedics. He also enjoyed “playing” the piano.
The next court date for Stuart is scheduled for July 20th, 2026.
