Fall River Schools virus report continues to show increase in cases following city’s trend

Interim Superintendent Maria Pontes’ Administration has issued an updated and detailed report concerning COVID-19 and Fall River Public Schools for the week ending September 24th.

The data dashboard is as follows:

Total Number of Students (does not include students in out-of-district placements): 10,104

Number of New Positive Students: 38 (11 with possible student contact)

Number of Students Currently in Quarantine Due to Exposure at School: 59

Number of Students Currently in Quarantine Due to Non-School Exposure: 102

Total Number of Students Currently in Quarantine: 161

Total Number of Employees: 1,920

Number of Employees Newly Reported This Week with a Positive COVID-19 Status: 2

Number of Employees Currently Quarantined Due to Exposure at School: 1

Number of Employees Currently Quarantined Due to Non-School Exposure: 1

Total Number of Employees Currently in Quarantine: 2

Note: Quarantine period is 14 days: quarantined students and staff may appear in more than one week.

This week’s report shows an increase in students testing positive from 35 last week which reflects the continued rise in cases in Fall River.

As seen in Thursday’s Massachusetts COVID-19 report issued by the Massachusetts Department of Health, Fall River’s COVID-19 community spread rate the last two weeks is 36.5 per 100,000, an increase of 4.7 from last week.

The Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education reported 2,236 student cases and 318 staff cases this week. In the final report for the last school year in mid-June, DESE reported just 53 student cases and 5 staff cases for a one week period.
