Fall River package store implementing plan after show cause hearing reveals customers overserved, urinating, heavily inebriated
A Fall River business went in front of the Licensing Board on Tuesday for a show cause hearing.
Leonard’s Package Store at 1331 Pleasant Street appeared concerning ongoing incidents on the property.
According to police, realizing that the area is a difficult neighborhood and that there is also a homeless problem, officers have been called to the business for 26 calls recently including patrons being overserved to the point where they were too intoxicated to give their name, customers drinking in the building, and people urinating in the lot. While PD acknowledged that the owner has been somewhat cooperative and fears retaliation (has already been choked once), it’s becoming an ongoing issue.
Ownership was contrite and offered to the Board that he will pay for private security detail at $40 an hour from 3:00 p.m. until closing each day. At the suggestion of police and with their help, ownership will also begin trespassing problem patrons and put up proper trespassing/loitering signage.
The business will be on a 90-day probationary period and will appear again in front of the Board in March.
