Fall River man killed in rodeo accident, fundraiser announced
A Fall River man was killed in what appears to be a tragic accident.
According to Norton Police, on Wednesday, August 29th, at approximately 8:36 p.m., Norton Police learned that a male was injured at the New England Rodeo, located at 185 North Washington Street in Norton. The police dispatcher received a phone call and was notified that the male victim was being transported to the Norton police station. The Norton Fire Department was requested to meet the victim at the police station. The male, Evaldo DeSilva, 35, of Fall River, was transported to Rhode Island Hospital by the Norton Fire Department where he later died.
Witnesses at the rodeo reported that DeSilva was riding a training bull and that he was wearing protective gear. They stated that DeSilva fell from the bull, onto the ground, and was stepped on by the bull. The incident remains under investigation by Norton Police, however it appears that it was a tragic accident and that no foul play was involved.
The Rhode Island Medical Examiner’s office is investigating as well.
