What was a tint violation became much more serious for a local man.

According to Massachusetts State Police,at approximately 8 a.m. last Thursday Trooper Paul Martin, assigned to Statea Police-Middleboro, was patrolling Route 24 in Bridgewater. While traveling northbound he observed a black Saab sedan with excessive window tint traveling at speeds above the posted speed limit of 65 miles per hour. Trooper Martin activated his emergency lights and initiated a motor vehicle stop.

Once the Saab came to a full stop, Trooper Martin approached the driver’s side and identified the operator as Montrell Jones, 34, of Westport. After informing him why he was stopped Trooper Martin discovered that Jones did not possess a valid driver’s license. He also confirmed that the window tint was darker than permissible by law.

Trooper Martin requested a tow to respond to the scene as Jones did not possess a valid driver’s license, then removed him from the driver’s seat to conduct an inventory of the vehicle’s contents prior to its removal. Trooper Martin quickly discovered a small bag containing a loaded Smith & Wesson 9mm pistol. Jone does not possess a license to carry firearms and has been convicted of illegal possession of a firearm in the past. He was immediately placed under arrest and seated in the rear of a cruiser.

JONES was transported to the Middleboro Barracks for booking where he was held pending arraignment at Brockton District Court on the charges of Illegal Possession of a Firearm with 1 Prior Violent/Drug Crime; Illegal Possession of a Firearm without FID Card, Subsequent Offense; Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device; Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle; and Illegal Window Tint.
