Fall River lawyer facing charge after alleged incident at Charlton Memorial Hospital
A Fall River lawyer is facing a charge after an alleged incident that took place at a local hospital.
According to a police narrative, on March 11th a special state police officer was made aware that an unidentified party had threatened to stab unidentified staff in the Emergency Department on March 7th at approximately 11:30 at Charlton Memorial Hospital.
The officer then proceeded to the emergency department and spoke to the charge nurse who was working during the incident. She stated that the patient, 69-year-old Kenneth Mello, had disrupted the emergency room, loudly objecting to his treatment and yelling that he should not be crossed because he was a lawyer. The officer stated that he had knowledge that Mello was indeed a lawyer.
Mello was apparently unhappy with the nurse, stating at one point that she should be nothing more than a medical technician. The nurse told the officer that when Mello was being discharged, he demanded that the stretcher be wheeled directly to his vehicle. She is unable to do that per policy and offered a pillow on the wheelchair for his pain, stating it would only be five minutes in transit. Mello then allegedly told the nurse “How about I take a knife and stab you for five minutes?”
On Wednesday, a criminal complaint was issued against Mello on the charge of Threat to Commit a Crime.
He has an arraignment scheduled for June 3rd.
