Bicyclist seriously injured, driver charged, after bicycle/vehicle collision in Plymouth County

A driver was arrested Friday morning after hitting a bicyclist that suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries.

According to police, at just after 12:30 a.m., Officers responded to the intersection of Otis St., Downer Ave. and Daley Rd. for a report of a crash involving an SUV and a bicycle. Officers found the injured bicyclist in the road on Daly Rd. The SUV had damage to the front end. Hingham Fire Paramedics transported the 39-year-old bicyclist to South Shore Hospital. The SUV driver was not injured.

Investigation showed that before the crash the bicyclist had been riding north on Otis St. approaching the intersection and the SUV had been traveling west on Otis St. The SUV, which had a stop sign, failed to yield the right of way and entered Downer Ave. and hit the bicyclist.

Following an investigation at the scene the SUV driver was arrested. The SUV, a 2009 Cadillac Escalade, was towed.

Arrested was 59-year-old Marcia Durant Way of Hingham. She was charged with Operating Under the Influence of Alcohol, Negligent Operation, Failure to Slow/Yield. After booking, she was released on personal recognizance for arraignment on Friday at Hingham District Court.
