Fall River principal awarded in Boston with Latinos for Education Shine Award
Boston, MA – Latinos for Education hosted its fifth annual Latino Educators Shine Awards at the MCLE Conference Center in Boston honoring a Fall River high school principal.
Dr. Kristen Suarez Lima, High School Principal at Argosy Collegiate Charter School, was recognized by State Representative Alan Silvia (Democrat – 7th Bristol) and State Senator Michael Rodrigues (Democrat – 1st Bristol and Plymouth) for her dedication and commitment as an educator, as well as her impact on students, families, and the broader community. Lima was one of 15 charter public school educators from across the state to be recognized.
Senator Liz Miranda (Democrat – 2nd Suffolk) and Representative Michael P. Kushmerek (Democrat – 3rd Worcester) were also honored at this year’s award ceremony for their legislative work in advancing educator diversity and retention.
The ceremony featured remarks from Miranda, Kushmerek, and Dr. Regina Robinson, Special Assistant to the Commissioner. Also speaking were key leaders from Latinos for Education, including Amanda Fernandez, CEO and Founder, Jacqueline Monterroso, Director of Policy and Advocacy, and Migdalia Diaz, COO and Massachusetts Interim Executive Director.
Lima joined Argosy in 2019 as a High School Instructional Coach, where she trained teachers on academic rigor, class structure and culture, and data-driven instruction through formal coaching cycles. Lima worked her way up to Assistant High School Principal and in 2023 began her current role as High School Principal. She brings over 10 years of classroom teaching experience to her leadership position.
Lima earned her doctorate in educational leadership and administration at the University of Florida. She also has a master’s in education and social change from the University of Miami and a bachelor’s degree in English language and literature from the University of Florida.
“To receive this award alongside outstanding Latino educators from across the state is a true honor,” said Lima. “For me, this recognition speaks not just to my leadership as a principal, but to the entire mission of the Argosy community, which is to ensure every student receives a rigorous education to prepare them for life after high school. I am thankful for organizations like Latinos for Education, who work hard to bring together and support Latino educators to make sure every student thrives.”
“It’s no surprise that Kristen is receiving this award,” said Sunil Jagannath, Argosy’s Executive Director. “She is truly deserving of this recognition and embodies everything this award is meant to celebrate—her true dedication to making sure Argosy students, staff, and families are supported and excel in their academic journeys. Congratulations to Kristen on this well-deserved achievement.”
