One Fall River teen was arrested, and several missing children were located, after Massachusetts State Police and Fall River Police responded to a city home.

According to Dave Procopio of Massachusetts State Police, Massachusetts State Police Troopers assigned to the Department’s Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section, along with local police, other Troopers, and a Parole Officer, today arrested a 17-year-old Fall River male wanted for armed robbery and assault charges stemming from an incident last weekend.

The suspect was also wanted for violating his parole from a previous conviction by leading Troopers on a pursuit two weeks ago.

When a VFAS Trooper and a parole office visited the 656 2nd St. home of a family member of the suspect late this morning, they observed the suspect in the apartment. The suspect fled into the rear of the apartment, but the Trooper and Parole Officer found him hiding in a closet. As they started to take him into custody, six of the suspect’s friends who were also present (three males and three females) tried to pull the Trooper and Parole Officer off the suspect. The friends, who like the suspect are all considered juveniles under Massachusetts law, attempted to push and strike the officers.

Because the suspect and his associates were all juveniles, the Trooper and Parole Officer decided to wait for backup to ensure they could take the suspect into custody without having to deploy force against him.

Fall River Police Officers and Troopers from the State Police-Dartmouth Barracks responded to the apartment. The teenage suspect, meanwhile, had fled into the attic and barricaded the stairwell door.

Troopers and Officers persuaded the suspect to leave his barricaded position and surrender without further incident. The teenager was placed into police custody and transported to the barracks for booking.

He was booked on a warrant charging him with armed robbery, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and assault and battery, stemming from an incident that occurred several days ago. He was also booked on the parole violation warrant; he had violated conditions of his parole when he refused to stop for Troopers trying to stop his vehicle two weeks ago and led them on a pursuit.

Additionally, one of the male juveniles and two of the female juveniles present were determined to have been reported as missing and were placed into custody of a local youth services and treatment agency.
