Somerset Police are investigating an armed robbery.

According to SPD, on Wednesday September 23, at approximately 10:42 p.m., the Somerset Police Department responded to a report of an armed robbery which had just occurred at the Wilbur Avenue Shell Gas Station, located at 1833 Wilbur Avenue. The suspect was described as being a black male, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black pants, and a ski mask. The suspect was also wearing a distinct pair of black and white Nike Shoes (possibly Air Force 1’s) and what appear to be two different gloves. Both gloves appear to be black and white. The glove on the suspect’s right hand appears to be a work style or welding type glove with a white top and cut resistant palm. There is some sort of writing located on and just below the knuckle area.

The suspect entered the store just prior to closing, as the clerks were counting the cash drawer. He appeared to know where the cameras were located and kept his head down. He violently assaulted both clerks before ripping the entire cash drawer from the register and fleeing with it.

The suspect was tracked to the Wilbur Avenue Park and Ride (via a change trail) where it appears that he got into a vehicle and fled. The clerks stated that the suspect brandished a knife with a silver blade during the incident.

Any information regarding this robbery should be directed to Detective Jim Cardella at 508-679-2138. All information received will remain confidential, according to SPD.
