Massachusetts elderly wheelchair-bound woman rescued from house fire after sustaining life-threatening injuries
Those who responded to a Massachusetts fire on Tuesday afternoon are being crediting with rescuing an elderly woman in a wheelchair.
According to Kingston Fire & Emergency Management, just after 2:30 p.m., Kingston Emergency Communications received a call for a building fire at 73 Main Street with an elderly victim trapped on the third floor.
Upon arrival, firefighters were advised that a fire in the kitchen had been extinguished by a neighbor, but a wheelchair-bound woman was still in the apartment. Kingston personnel were able to enter the apartment under heavy smoke conditions and remove the victim.
The victim sustained life-threatening injuries. Boston MedFlight was requested but was unable to fly due to weather. The victim was transported by a Kingston Fire Department ambulance to a Boston hospital.
Mutual aid from Plymouth Fire and Brewster Ambulance assisted at the scene while Duxbury Fire provided station coverage.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Kingston Fire and Police Departments as well as the Massachusetts State Police.
