An 18-year-old Massachusetts driver has been arrested after a fatal crash killed a 77-year-old man.

According to Dave Procopio of Massachusetts State Police, at approximately 6:50 p.m., Sunday Troopers from the State Police-Medford Barracks, along with Medford Police and Fire and EMS, responded to a crash involving a pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle in the vicinity of 330 Middlesex Avenue in Medford.

The pedestrian, 77-year-old Walter Wishoski, of Malden, was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

The investigation determined that the victim was struck by a 2013 Ford Fiesta as he was walking in the right travel lane. The operator of the Fiesta, 18-year-old Everton Candido of Somerville, was arrested for unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

Preliminary investigation by State Police units indicates that Wishoski was crossing Middlesex Avenue in a westerly direction and the Ford operated by Candido was traveling northbound when the car struck the victim.

Candido was booked at State Police-Medford; a bail clerk released him on bail pending arraignment in Somerville District Court. He remained on scene while Troopers investigated the crash.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing and being conducted by Troop A of the Massachusetts State Police with assistance from the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, State Police Crime Scene Services Section, and Medford and Somerville Police.
