Massachusetts COVID-19 positive test rate continues to climb as 118 new deaths reported

Massachusetts saw an increase in deaths, active cases, and positive test rate in Wednesday’s COVID-19 report.

Massachusetts has seen 6,135 more positive cases announced today. An increase from Tuesday’s report. The 7 day weighted average positive test rate saw another increase to 8.44%. The rate was 3.3 on November 23rd and 6.68% just two days ago.

Massachusetts had seen 4,060 more positive cases announced yesterday.

The Massachusetts Department of Health statistics show a rise in total confirmed cases to 352,558 with 118 more reported dead for a total of 12,338.

The overall amount of tests administered in Massachusetts is now 10,848,872 after 86,050 new molecular tests.

The 7 day average of COVID-19 deaths increased to 58.

Estimated active cases increased to 78,810.

Hospitalizations have increased in 80 of the last 107 days and 55 of the last 66, but saw a decrease by 2 to see the total lower to 2,257.

Weekly COVID-19 Public Health Report

According to the December 23rd report, Fall River has a 103.6 Average Daily Incident Rate per 100,000 (Last 14 days) (109.2 last week) which is a decrease and the thirteenth highest in the state. New Bedford saw a decrease to 100.9 (was 111.5) leaving them fifteenth in the state. Westport is also in the red at 68.6 (was 57.6), Swansea is at 70.8 and was 91.8 last week, and Somerset saw a slight increase to 86.0 (was 81.8). Freetown also saw their rate increase as it now sits at 83.7 from 63.1. Dartmouth is currently at 62.9 after seeing 63.7 last week.
