Fall River sees first positive case of COVID-19
The City of Fall River was informed that a resident has tested positive for COVID-19. The resident is now isolated. Those potentially exposed to the diagnosed resident have been traced and contacted, according to a release sent by Mayor Coogan’s Office. Those individuals are now in quarantine.
Resources for COVID-19 Information:
Behavioral Health: It is important that residents prioritize their mental health during the COVID-19 outbreak. Residents experiencing anxiety, depression, or need emotional support can call 211 to be connected to behavioral health resources.
Massachusetts 2-1-1 provides residents with real time COVID-19 information. Residents with questions regarding COVID-19 should call 2-1-1.

• Information is available in over 150 languages
• All calls are confidential
According to Mayor Coogan, the City of Fall River fields, courts, and open spaces are open for passive use only – no team sports. City playgrounds and play structures will continue to be closed. These closures and restrictions will be monitored and enforced by the Fall River Police Department.
Coogan stated earlier this week that these restrictions have been put into effect in order to protect the health of the community. Mayor Coogan continues to urge residents to do the following:
Practice social distancing. This means keeping 6ft between individuals and avoid shaking hands and hugging
Wash your hands often for at least 20 seconds with soap and water. If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol
Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces
Cover your cough and sneezes. Throw tissues away and clean your hands afterwards.
Stay home when you are sick
Avoid contact with individuals who are sick

It’s easy to say stay home if your sick. I’ve bedn going to work because I need to buy groceries and pay my rent. I am out of sick time. I’ve been diagnosed with pneumonia but can’t afford to stay home. It’s real easy to say stay home but if you’re not ditch, how are we supposed to feed our families. I have one member of my family who was a waitress but now has no income coming home and another who had his hours cut by to a quarter. HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO STAY HOME?
