Fall River firefighters dealt with a Sunday afternoon blaze in the city.

Just after 2:45 p.m., a call came in for flames coming from the first floor of 1409 North Main Street where people may be trapped in the second floor of the structure.

Upon arrival, FFD encountered heavy smoke and fire from what turned out to be 1411 North Main Street.

According to Acting District Fire Chief Ron Sevigny, two occupants of the home jumped out of windows on the first floor, while the two second floor residents were already out of the home.

According to scanner transmissions, firefighters were chasing flames from the first floor into the second floor.

The fire was placed under control at approximately 3:15 p.m.

The Red Cross was on scene to aid the four residents.

Firefighters found and rescued a pet cat from the first floor.

Sevigny stated that the total damage to both the building and contents resulted in an approximate $100,000 loss.

According to real estate listings, the multiple-family home was recently placed under agreement and the third floor is currently empty.

The fire is still under investigation.
