Evening pedestrian collision on Route 138 leaves local man dead
A local man is dead after a weekend highway pedestrian collision.
According to police, on Sunday at just after 8:00 p.m., Middletown Police and Fire personnel responded to the intersection of Coddington Highway (Route 138) and Underwood Lane for a reported motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian.
Upon arrival, first responders located an 80-year-old Middletown man who had sustained critical injuries.
The preliminary investigation indicates that the pedestrian was crossing Coddington Highway from Underwood Lane when he was struck by a vehicle traveling westbound on Coddington Highway.
Middletown Fire personnel provided medical treatment at the scene before transporting the pedestrian to Rhode Island Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.
The Middletown Police Accident Investigation Unit responded to the scene and continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.
The operator of the vehicle remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. No arrests have been made, and no citations have been issued at this time.
