East Providence Police warning public of local highly sophisticated fraud ring
Local police are warning the public of an advanced fraud scheme that is costing area residents money.
The East Providence Police has been made aware of a scam involving the sale of puppies through Facebook community posts and Facebook Marketplace.
Scammers are using actual resident’s identifications, listing puppies for sale, and requesting electronic funds be transferred for partial or full payment.
The Detective Division has investigated a similar case recently and it appears it is part of a highly sophisticated fraud ring.
Police ask the public to be extremely cautious when making electronic purchases/deposits with unknown persons.
Here is an example of some of the fraudulent posts.
