Providence, R.I. — The Department of Children, Youth & Families is disclosing the near fatality of a two-year-old child.

According to DCYF, the Department had prior involvement with the family but was not open to the family at the time of the incident.

While this incident occurred on March 13, 2023, the Department could not issue public disclosure until the investigation was complete. This week, the Department closed the investigation of this case in which it was determined that maltreatment contributed to this near fatality.

Pursuant to state law, DCYF has notified the Office of the Child Advocate of the report.

Due to confidentiality laws, DCYF is prohibited from sharing additional information.

According to the Providence Journal, the Child Advocate’s Office will be creating a review panel that will investigate 28 deaths and 28 “near fatalities” that has taken place since 2019 among children who had some involvement with the Rhode Island Department of Children, Youth and Families.

Rhode Islanders are required by law to report known or suspected cases of child abuse or neglect to DCYF within 24 hours of becoming aware of such abuse/neglect. Call 1-800-RI-CHILD to report known or suspected cases of child abuse.

😤😢😤 time for the whole department to get on the ball. Put the pieces of 💩 in prison for the cruelty shown the children. These kids start off with no family, the very last thing they need is people who don’t care, are only interested in the $$,and are horrific. Time to vet the “fostering employees” much, much more carefully. How do some of you people sleep at night ????
