DARTMOUTH – The Bristol County Sheriff’s Office is moving forward with repairs and renovations to the housing units that were damaged in last month’s standoff.

Members of the BCSO facilities team spent 16 hours over the weekend cleaning the GB housing unit.

“Our maintenance guys did an amazing job,” Sheriff Paul Heroux said Monday morning, when he visited the housing unit to see the progress. “From Friday to Monday, it was like night and day.”

The next step in the process is getting quotes for repair work. Over the next few weeks, the BCSO will be reaching out companies to get estimates to repair windows, doors, cameras and sprinklers. Damage estimates are $100,000-$200,000.

Bristol County Sheriff’s Office investigators continue to review video footage and other evidence from the standoff and are expected to file charges against inmates in the coming weeks. Investigators were on hand over the weekend with the facilities team to document and collect any evidence that came up during cleaning.

Corrections officers came from across the state to assist the BCSO last month when inmates trashed a housing unit in a standoff. Upset that they were being moved to another housing unit, inmates broke windows, computers, control boards, beds, tables and other items, armed themselves with shanks and barricaded doors. BCSO and officers from across the state ended the standoff by removing the inmates without any injuries.
