Three from New York arrested in Massachusetts after 80 fake licenses, thousands in stolen merchandise recovered
An investigation in Massachusetts resulted in the arrest of three from New York for identity fraud and organized retail theft.
According to police, on Saturday April 8, at approximately 3:00 p.m., officers from the Auburn Police Department were dispatched to Macys to investigate suspicious activity. Upon their arrival, officers discovered that three people attempted to use a driver’s license with a stolen identity to access a line of credit and make purchases on that line of credit at Macys.
Officers on scene located a suspect vehicle attempting to flee the Auburn mall. The vehicle was stopped before it could exit the mall property. As a result of the investigation, thousands of dollars of stolen merchandise and 80 driver licenses with stolen identities that all displayed the same photographs of the suspects were recovered. It does not appear that any of the victims of the stolen identities are local.
A 25-year-old male from New York, a 26-year-old female from New York and a 35-year-old female from New York were all taken into custody and charged with Larceny over $1200, Identity Fraud, Organized Retail Theft, Improper Use of a Credit Card, and Conspiracy.
The names of the suspects were not released.
