Driver charged, victim’s name released, in fatal road rage crash on Route 95
The Rhode Island State Police today released additional information regarding the fatal crash that occurred yesterday on Route 95 North in the city of Warwick.
While the crash remains under investigation, 31-year-old Ryan Van Winkle, of Warren, RI was charged with Driving to Endanger – Resulting in Death. He was arraigned at Rhode Island Hospital. The RI Sheriffs Department has assumed custody of Van Winkle and he will be re-arraigned in 3rd District Court on Monday, May 2, 2022.
Two vehicles were driving northbound near the Route 4 split on Route 95 at approximately 10 a.m. Saturday morning when a road rage incident took place.
Upon arrival, responders located a truck rolled over in the middle of the highway.
The victim of the crash, a passenger in the truck driven by Van Winkle, has been identified as 39-year-old Matthew J. Yoder, of Newport.
