Two seriously injured rushed to New Bedford hospital following afternoon highway collision

Several crews responded Thursday afternoon to a collision that left multiple people injured.

According to the Lakeville Fire Department, Lakeville first responders responded shortly after 2:00 p.m. to the area of Pond Cemetery on Bedford Street (Route 18) for a reported motor vehicle crash.

The initial response included Engine 1 and Ambulance 2, staffed by the department’s on-duty crew of three firefighters.

Upon arrival, firefighters found two seriously injured occupants and immediately requested an additional ambulance and supplemental staffing. A department staffing recall was transmitted, and the Fire Chief responded with Ambulance 3. Three recalled firefighters also responded to assist.

An adult male with life-threatening injuries was treated on scene before being transported by Ambulance 2 to St. Luke’s Hospital. Due to the severity of his condition, four firefighters were committed to his care.

Ambulance 3, staffed by two firefighters, transported an adult female to St. Luke’s Hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening.

With both ambulances transporting patients to the hospital, Engine 1 and Squad 3 were abandoned on scene.
