Woman killed Friday in fatal Somerset dog mauling
A 44-year-old Somerset woman died last night as a result of a dog mauling.
According to Gregg Miliote of the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office, at around 5:20 p.m. on Friday, Somerset Police received a 911 call from the victim’s daughter. The 911 caller advised that her mother, Melissa Astacio, was having a seizure inside their home at 229 Lees River Avenue when the family dog began to attack.
When police and paramedics arrived on scene, police were forced to deploy a Taser on the dog before being able to assist the victim, who was then rushed to Rhode Island Hospital. The victim, who was known by her family and friends to suffer from seizures, was pronounced deceased by doctors at Rhode Island Hospital at 6:20 pm.

The dog, who is believed to be an 8-year-old Pit Bull, was secured at the scene of the incident by Swansea Animal Rescue and has been placed in quarantine at their facility in Swansea.
No criminal conduct or foul play is suspected at this time.
The investigation remains active and ongoing at this time.

This is no doubt a tragic loss, however I’m not so inclined to believe that it was a pitbull. The media and police always love to point blame on these dogs and they have been for years.

Yes it is a tragic loss. The family has even stated that was the breed of the dog. Feel free to research it yourself if you think we or the Bristol County DA is making it up.

No amount of research will make pit bull fanatics believe it was a pit bull, even when the family states it was a pit bull. DNA evidence would be refuted as then they would bring out “there is no such thing as a pit bull” argument, blah blah blah. When pit bull does something good, they claim it’s a pit bull and post photos of “goofy” with a tiara or tutu. When pit bull does something bad, “it doesn’t exist”. When pit bull maims and kills, they yell, “chihuahuas bite more”. The absurdity of their arguments always seems to be beyond their grasp, yet around we go….again and again…..
