Where does Fall River’s state delegation stand on Governor Healey’s proposed tax bill?

Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey filed a bill last week that would allow cities and towns to increase taxes on meals, lodging, and vehicles.

Per Boston.com:

“The bill gives municipalities the option to increase their hotel, motel, and other rental tax from 6% to 7% (or half a percentage higher for Boston), and their meal tax from the set .75% to 1%. The bill would also let cities and towns increase their motor vehicle excise tax by 5%.”

New Bedford City Councilor Shawn Oliver released a statement last week outlining his opposition to the proposed bill, calling on members of the state legislation to consider already cash-strapped taxpayers:

“Residents and businesses throughout the Commonwealth continue to struggle day to day as we’re still under the choke hold of inflation, a troubling housing crisis, and an uncertain job market. These factors solidify the argument that this is not the time to increase these already heavy burdens.”

Fall River Reporter sent an email to Representatives Carole Fiola, Paul Schmid, Alan Silvia and Patrica Haddad and did not receive any response, however, we spoke with Fiola who said that she has not had an opportunity to review the bill in depth yet.

“It’s a little early.”

Other calls to Reps were not returned as of publication of the article.

Reason 175 to get the hell out of this doomed state. Healy crying about illegal immigrants why Rome burns. She and her party care more about illegals than their own law abiding tax paying citizens. Whoever voted for her enjoy your tax hikes, morons.

LOL … all our esteemed local democrat reps are all going to carefully consider and study this funding scheme for illegal aliens. Ok, sure. These demon-cat beasts operate as a cartel … none dare object. At the end of the day even an Old School guy like Alan Silvia would vote to tranny your 9 year old cause Dems always vote as a gang
Plan on more small restaurants going out of business.
Healy is destroying the financial health of the State over funding an endless stream of ILLEGAL ALIENS …. all because She is betting the Democrats can steal the election again (which they will no problem) and the Leftist- low IQ- mule-face ‘Carmela’ Harris will be President after Creepy Joe resigns a few months into his second term and Maura and her ‘wife’ will be the new Attorney General of the United States.

There’s no such thing as an illegal human. People are so heartless and would hurt children to save a few pennies in tax to help the needy.
