Westport Animal Control warns pet owners as animal tentatively tests positive for rabies

Local officials are issuing a warning to certain pet owners after a recent finding.

According to Westport Animal Control, a raccoon has tested tentatively positive for rabies on Dionne Street off of Sanford Road.

The specimen is being sent to the state lab for confirmation at this time.

WAC strongly urge all residents to makes sure that dogs and cats are up to date on their vaccinations and that dogs are licensed in town.

The due date to license dogs is April 1st.

If you see any animals acting ill, please contact Animal Control at 774-264-5129 or Westport Police at 508-636-1122 immediately.

If you observe a sick animal, do not approach it.
