Community coming together to help Attleboro family of 11 children after tragedy strikes twice
Online fundraisers can sometimes be overused but they are also a powerful tool to help families when they need it most. Especially a local family experiencing an unthinkable tragedy for the second time.
According to family members and a GoFundMe fundraiser, on Tuesday, James Barnes, “a loving, devoted father of 11 beautiful children,” took his own life.
Every adjective used to describe Barnes by friends and family was complimentary.
“If you knew James, you knew how big his heart is. He was protective and endlessly giving. His wife and children were his world, and he poured every ounce of himself into being their dad.”
Others described him as funny and kind. Another stated he was one of the most incredible people you could meet.
Barnes passing is tragic enough for his partner Jessica, leaving her a family to take care of without his presence or finances, however, this isn’t the first time she has had to endure such a tragedy.
In 2018, Jessica lost her 14-year-old son Justin to suicide which was completely unexpected. Jessica and James honored him with a bench and decorated wreaths.
While money doesn’t bring loved ones back, hopefully the $7,000 raised as of this writing will alleviate some stress and anxiety.
For those who need help or someone to talk to, 988 is a three-digit number that connects callers to the National Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. 988 provides support to people who are experiencing emotional distress or suicidal thoughts. The services are free and available 24/7, 365 days a year.
Services for Barnes have not yet been announced.
