The best salad in Fall River is from a hospital?

Published

on

The day before Christmas, my husband had to have an emergency surgery that landed him at Charlton Memorial Hospital. It was a busy time of year with the holiday and children so I was on the run going back and forth from home to the hospital often. While I was waiting for him to be moved to his room, the nurse suggested it would be a good time for me to go to the lobby and grab a coffee or something to eat.

The lobby kiosk was filled with snacks and beverages but I grabbed a chicken and spicy pecan salad and sat down to eat. I was completely surprised at the quality of the meal. The salad was fresh, cold and a substantial portion. Perfect lettuce, moist chicken and tons of cranberries, blue cheese and pecans made this literally one of the best salads I have ever had. For only $7.99, I thought this was the best kept secret in the city for sure.

As I was leaving the hospital that day, I saw a neighbor of mine walking into the hospital. When I saw her the next day, I asked if everyone in the family was doing okay, after I had seen her at Charlton. She paused for a minute and said:

“Honestly, you won’t believe me, but I was at the hospital to grab a salad.”

“The chicken pecan one?” I asked.

“Yes! Have you had it?”

I couldn’t believe it. I guess it wasn’t such a big secret. My neighbor said that she too, was at the hospital visiting one day when she needed to grab lunch and tried the salad. Since then, she goes every week to buy the salad for her and her husband. He loves it too.

As luck would have it, a friend of mine fell while running and needed stitches and she was at the hospital the same time I was there with my husband.

I sent her a message wishing her well and told her that if she was hungry, she should grab the chicken salad from the lobby. I should have guessed her response:

“Oh my gosh, I used to eat that salad all the time when I worked there! Seriously, every time I worked that was my go-to!”

Of course it was.

The verdict was in. The best salad in the city is the Spicy Pecan Chicken Salad with Bleu Cheese from Charlton Memorial Hospital. The salad is available in the lobby kiosk as well as the cafeteria most days. It was a bright spot in an otherwise dark visit but worth the trip to grab and go. Trust me, it’s worth it.

Panera Oriental Cbicken salad, Waldorf Salad at Original Joe’s, Chinese and Cobb salad at Cheesecake Factory and the old Nordstrom Cafe at Providence Place had a great BBq chicken Salad. I find myself eating less vegetables which I replaced with eggs and grass fed beef proteins including meat, milk and butter. Good Eats everyone.
