RI Police investigating tragic death of 9-month old infant

Detectives from the Rhode Island State Police and the Cranston Police Department are actively investigating the death of a 9-month old infant boy that occurred on Wednesday, December 2nd in the City of Cranston.

According to Rhode Island State Police, at approximately 1:00 p.m., the Cranston Fire and the Cranston Police Department responded to a report of an unresponsive and not breathing infant at a residence on Lincoln Avenue in their City. The Cranston Fire Department subsequently transported the infant to Hasbro Children’s Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased. In furtherance of the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the infant’s death, the Cranston Police Department contacted the Rhode Island State Police which resulted in the service of a search warrant at a residence in the Town of West Greenwich. The joint investigation is currently active and on-going.

The warrant was for a home in the 300 block of Mishnock Road.

We contacted Cranston Police Chief Michael Winquist and he gave the following response.

“I can confirm that we are actively investigating the sudden death of an infant that occurred (Wednesday) in the city of Cranston. The investigation led us to a residence in the Town of West Greenwich which prompted us to contact the Rhode Island State Police. Both departments are working together to determine how this tragic death occurred.”
