Taunton Police Department investigating after vehicle plows into building, hits several cars

TAUNTON — Chief Edward J. Walsh reports that the Taunton Police Department responded to an incident where a car struck a building early Sunday morning.

On Sunday, Aug. 13, at approximately 2:06 a.m., Taunton Police received reports of a car that had crashed into a commercial building in the area of 59 Broadway.

Upon arrival, officers discovered that a Toyota Tundra traveling north on Broadway had hit three unoccupied parked cars, then crashed into the front of a building.

The driver, a 22-year-old male, fled on foot. Taunton Police officers found him at his home, uninjured. No other injuries were reported.

The driver was evaluated at his home, and then was transported to an area hospital via ambulance. Taunton Police are taking steps to connect the driver with appropriate services.

Taunton Fire Department and Brewster Ambulance assisted on scene.

The owner of Karen’s Shear Talent Hair Salon issued the following statement on social media after the business suffered severe damage from the crash.

“Words can’t express all the emotions I am feeling! We will be closed until further notice. I will reach out to all that have appointments booked once I know what the plan is. I appreciate all the calls and texts. Sorry if I didn’t answer all of you. The amount of love and support is amazing. I really am blessed in more ways than one that I have great clients, friends and my family! It does take a village.”

The investigation into the crash remains active and ongoing. No charges are filed at this time.
