A woman is dead, and several others injured after a collision on Monday morning.

According to Rhode Island State Police, just before 5:00 a.m., members of the Rhode Island State Police Hope Valley Barracks responded to calls for a multi-vehicle crash on Route 95 North, just south of Exit 9 in the Town of Exeter.

The initial investigation revealed that a tractor-trailer was traveling in the middle lane of Route 95 up an incline in the roadway when it was struck in the rear by a Subaru Outback. This collision caused the Subaru to become disabled in the roadway, partially in the left lane of travel.

A third vehicle, traveling in the left lane, struck the disabled Subaru in the roadway.

A passenger in the Subaru, identified as 20-year-old Karen Paredes-Ramos of Sterling Avenue, Providence, was fatally injured and pronounced dead at the scene.

Three additional occupants in the Subaru were injured and transported to Rhode Island Hospital with serious injuries. The operator of the tractor-trailer and the operator of the third vehicle were uninjured.

The crash remains under investigation by members of the State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit, the Commercial Enforcement Unit, and the Hope Valley Barracks.
