RI State Police Task Force Arrests Seven Suspects in Connection with Two Shootings in Providence

Colonel James M. Manni, Superintendent of the Rhode Island State Police and Director of the Department of Public Safety, announces that members of the Rhode Island State Police High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) have arrested seven people in connection with two shooting incidents in the city of Providence.

These arrests are the result of a long-term joint investigation led by the Rhode Island State Police HIDTA Task Force in conjunction with the Rhode Island Office of the Attorney General and the Providence Police Department. This investigation is active and ongoing and more arrests are expected.

The first shooting occurred on May 20, 2019, at approximately 1:10 a.m. at Club Seven, 114 Spruce St., Providence, when two people were shot and suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Their names have not been released.

The second shooting occurred on Sunday, June 16, at approximately 9:50 p.m. in the area of the El Patio Night Club on Public Street in Providence, when Jean Garrido, age 29, of 584 Plainfield St., Providence, sustained a gunshot wound to his back. He was admitted to Rhode Island Hospital in stable condition and is among those charged.

Major Timothy G. Sanzi, Detective Commander, said multiple gunshots were fired on each of these occasions and each incident allegedly resulted from internal conflict among rival street gangs.

As a result of their investigation into both of these shootings, members of the HIDTA Task Force have arrested the following individuals overnight and this morning on the following charges:

Janssye Toucet, age 32, of 1775 Bicentennial Way, North Providence
For the shooting that occurred on May 20:
· Conspiracy to commit assault with a dangerous weapon
· Two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon
· Two counts of discharge of firearm resulting In injury
· Possession of a pistol without a license
· Possession of a firearm after a conviction for a crime of violence
For the shooting that occurred on June 16:
· Conspiracy to commit assault with a dangerous weapon
· Assault with a dangerous weapon
· Using a firearm while committing a crime of violence
· Possession of a pistol without a license
· Possession of a firearm after a conviction for a crime of violence

Tatiana Flores, age 25, of 38 Marion Ave., Providence
For the shooting that occurred on May 20:
· Conspiracy to commit assault with a dangerous weapon
· Two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon
· Two counts of discharge of firearm resulting In injury
· Possession of a pistol without a license
For the shooting that occurred on June 16:
· Conspiracy to commit assault with a dangerous weapon
· Assault with a dangerous weapon
· Using a firearm while committing a crime of violence
· Possession of a pistol without a license

The following individuals were all charged as a result of the investigation into last night’s shooting.

Jonathan Garrido, age 26, of 584 Plainfield St., Providence
· Conspiracy to sell firearm
· Possession of firearm after committing a crime of violence

Anthony Florian, age 26, of 139 Pierce Ave., Warwick
· Possession of a pistol without a license
· Conspiracy to commit assault with a dangerous weapon
· Assault with a dangerous weapon
· Using a firearm while committing a crime of violence
· Firing in a compact area
· Eluding police
· Possession of a firearm after committing a crime of violence

Keven Restrepo, age 28, of 578 Laurel Hill Ave., Cranston
· Possession of a pistol without a license
· Conspiracy to commit assault with a dangerous weapon
· Assault with a dangerous weapon
· Using a firearm while committing a crime of violence
· Firing in a compact area
· Possession of a firearm after conviction of a crime of violence

Jean Garrido, age 29, of 584 Plainfield St., Providence
· Possession of a pistol without a license
· Conspiracy to commit assault with a dangerous weapon
· Assault with a dangerous weapon
· Using a firearm while committing a crime of violence
· Firing in a compact area

Nathan Geter, age 28, of 167 Blackstone St., Woonsocket
· Possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance-cocaine
· Possession of a firearm while possessing with intent to deliver a controlled substance-cocaine
· Conspiracy to sell a firearm
· Possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance within a school zone
· Resisting arrest
· Obstruction

All of the suspects except Jean Garrido were processed at Rhode Island State Police Headquarters and held overnight pending formal arraignment. Jean Garrido will face formal arraignment on a future date.
