A Rhode Island nursing home resident that is accused of killing his roommate after he said the victim tried to kill him first, has been indicted on a murder charge.

On August 11, the Providence County Grand Jury returned an indictment charging 76-year-old Robert Hill of Warren with one count of murder.

Hill was charged on April 27th in the death of 81-year-old John Sullivan who was found by staff with pillow stuffing inside his mouth at the time of his death.

Personnel responded to Crestwood Nursing & Rehabilitation at 568 Child Street in Warren at approximately 10:15 p.m. for a sudden death at the residence.

Hill reportedly stated that Sullivan had been trying to kill him for 5, 10 years prior to him being found deceased.

Hill was committed to the custody of the state Department of Behavioral Healthcare, Developmental Disabilities & Hospitals as he had been ruled incompetent to stand trial. That has apparently changed with the indictment.

The defendant is scheduled to be arraigned on August 30, 2023, in Providence County Superior Court.
