A Rhode Island man is being remembered after dying while swimming with family.

At approximately 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, 58-year-old Louis Diffley of Warwick suffered from a medical episode before disappearing in the water at Warwick City Park.

His body was located a short time after the search for him began and was pronounced dead at Kent Hospital.

According to an obituary, Diffley was a devout Christian and a “member of Warwick Hope Assembly of God where everyone knew and loved him. In his free time, Lou loved to play his guitar, visit the beach and complete odd jobs around the house with his son Sean. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and friends, helping and encouraging others in need and he will be missed dearly by all who have had the privilege of knowing him.”

Diffley’s wife of 30 years Heidi, and the rest of his family, extended their heartfelt gratitude to the heroes on the beach who helped bring him to shore.

He also left behind three children.

A GoFundMe fundraiser has been created for funeral expenses and has raised over $5,000 as of this writing.

A Memorial Service to celebrate Lou’s life will be held at Warwick Hope Assembly of God at 425 Sandy Lane in Warwick on Wednesday, August 2, 2023, at 6:00 p.m.
