Rhode Island man facing several drug and gun charges after police seize narcotic resistant to overdose treatments

The Rhode Island State Police announced that on Thursday, the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Task Force arrested a Providence man on weapons charges while in possession of Fentanyl and Xylazine, a non-opioid synthetic narcotic commonly used as a cutting agent with Fentanyl that does not respond to overdose treatments with Narcan or Naloxone. These seizures and arrest were the result of an investigation initiated by the Rhode Island State Police HIDTA Task Force regarding an individual allegedly involved in the distribution of fentanyl, and the execution of a court authorized search warrants at Cass Street in Providence and Tobey Street in Providence.

During this investigation, a total of five firearms were seized, one of which was stolen. These firearms are identified as the following: a Smith and Wesson .32 caliber revolver, a REX 9 mm semi-automatic pistol, a Ruger .38 caliber revolver, a Smith and Wesson 9 mm semi-automatic pistol, a Bersa .38 caliber semi-automatic pistol, and several extended magazines. Also seized was approximately 145 grams of fentanyl, 98 grams of Xylazine, narcotics distribution materials, and $1,300 United States currency.

32-year-old Jeanleary Gomez Alejo of Providence is facing narcotics charges including possession of fentanyl in excess of one ounce, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance (fentanyl), possession of Xylazine in excess of one ounce, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance (Xylazine), and conspiracy to violate the uniform controlled substances act. Weapons charges include possession of a stolen firearm, possession of firearms while committing controlled substance violations, and large capacity feeding devices prohibited. Alejo was formally arraigned at 6th Division District Court where he was held without bail and remanded to the ACI Intake Center.

The Rhode Island State Police High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Task Force is comprised of members from the Rhode Island State Police, Providence Police Department, North Providence Police Department, Lincoln Police Department, Middletown Police Department, Bristol Police Department, Narragansett Police Department, Johnston Police Department, DEA Providence District Office, HSI and Department and Rhode Island National Guard Counterdrug Program.
