Police are attempting to locate a man who reportedly shoplifted from a city store and then spit on the clerk on Thursday.

According to Captain Barden Castro, at approximately 7:30 p.m., Officer Rachel Silvia responded to Speedway at 614 Pleasant Street, on reports of a robbery. Upon speaking with the clerk, it was determined that shoplifting had occurred. The clerk on duty at the store reported that a customer in the business told her that a male shoplifter had just left the store.

The clerk followed the man outside and then confronted him. The unknown shoplifter stated that he was homeless and threw the items he had stolen (beef jerky) at the clerk and then began to swear. While the shoplifter threatened the clerk, he spit at her, striking her face with his saliva.

The suspect in this incident is known to frequent the business and officers are working on confirming his identity.
