Massachusetts taxpayers are spending $120,000 a year, $2,500 a week to shelter a family
This week, Senate budget chief Michael Rodrigues stated that Massachusetts taxpayers are currently spending $75 million per month — $10,000 for each of 7,500 families — on the emergency shelter system. That breaks down to $120,000 a year or $2,500 a week just for shelter. This $2,500 a week for housing doesn’t include the SNAP benefits, MassHealth health insurance coverage, college tuition/financial aid and other benefits for non-US citizens recently voted for by Massachusetts Democrat state reps and senators. This means each family in the shelter system is costing Massachusetts taxpayers well over $150,000 a year, or more than twice the $65,000 average income of a Massachusetts resident.
While most families in Massachusetts spend about $600 a week on rent or mortgages (even that seems crazy), the state of Massachusetts is spending more than four times that, or $2,500 a week to house mostly migrant families who entered the country illegally. Before the influx of undocumented migrants that began more than a year ago, Rodrigues said the state was spending about $27 million per month to support 4,100 families. This means migrant crisis has tripled the cost of the shelter system and it’s reported Massachusetts will spend about $1.8 billion on the shelter system in 2023 and 2024.
The clear winners are the families getting housing paid for (most of whom have never paid into our tax system), the hotels receiving direct payments from the government, the non-profits who have seen increased funds, and the politicians who eventually gain new voters. The losers are the taxpayers who forcibly transfer part of their income to this broken, bloated system.
Even if you support social services for the poor and non-US citizens in Massachusetts, you should be concerned that your state government is spending four times the average rent or twice the average income to house these families.

Absolutely disgusting. U.S vets are homeless and our tax dollars are being squandered on illegals. This state one of the deepest in debt and idiots like Maura Healey are making sure we’ll be at the top of that list. Expect taxes to go up and if you voted for these people, you’re looking really stupid right now.

Stop with the pipe dream that when you cast your vote it matters. When it comes to the election system it’s who counts your vote that matters. The 2020 Presidential election should have given you all of the evidence you need in order to understand that America and it’s elections have been compromised by radical Democrat communists.
If you need proof just ask me and I’ll provide links.

The only negative of this story is that collectively, we should do more to help newly arrived Americans.
Fall River has a deep history of systemic racism, perhaps more than the US in general, which is saying a lot as it is, per capita, one of the most racist countries on Earth.
We need to do more to help and less to be divisive.

Why don’t you house some families and support them in your own home.

The ongoing migrant crisis is unprecedented, both in scale and the effect it has had beyond the border states to cities located deep within the country. Major cities such as New York, Denver and Chicago are finding themselves under extreme financial pressure, exacerbated by the lack of federal funding or assistance.Feb 24, 2024

Unfortunately they’re here and they’re also human beings and if you’re a Christian that actually reads the Bible Mass is doing what Jesus said to do.
Unfortunately we had a strong border bill passed in the Senate but Trump doesn’t want Biden to take credit so he told Congress not to vote on it! I guess they care more about making the Democrats look bad then doing something for this country and if they don’t like it now if their boy gets reelected they can strengthen it.
Mexico’s president has some great ideas to help stem the flow but we know this country won’t do any of this because we have a clown car Congress that can’t get anything done but yeah keep on blaming the Democrats for everything. Biden wanted to extend the stay in Mexico order but the court shot him down. Here’s the problem with executive orders. Congress needs to act!

I’m an atheist and I care about American citizens first. If my tax dollars are going to be used for solving homelessness it should be the American citizens that serve their country. This state is deeply in debt ,Out of 50 states we’re the 7th state most deeply in debt. The policy of spending money they don’t have is untenable, irresponsible and moronic. And where do you think that the deficit if cash will come from? Inevitably in the form of increased taxes further strangling the middle and lower classes who are already barely existing. While I can empathize with their plight We CANNOUT solve the world’s problems specially not at the expense of it’s own citizens.
Trump loves the poorly educated suckers.....

So what do we do with them???? Exterminate them??? Have them all wandering around our streets???? Unfortunately under the laws of the United States All in shelters are refugee applicants but we don’t have the courts to adjudicate the cases and send the ones that don’t deserve to be here back. That was in the law that the Senate passed that Trump told Congress not to pass.

This is your response? Exterminate them? Send them back to the country of their origin , secure our borders and entertain LEGITIMATE asylum seekers not every Tom Dick and Harry who strolls across. Stop making this about Trump. He’s a moron just like Biden and Healey. NONE of them care about the working class in this country. Again , This state is deeply in debt and this is making matters much worse it’s untenable

The US House already passed an Excellent Border Bill, but it made to much Commonsense for the
Communist Democrat Senators, IMO. The Senate Border Bill allowed a lage amount of Illegals a Year, and Codified the Biden Regime new Failed Immigration Policy’s.
Massghanistanis spending approx $125 MM a month on Obidens/Dems Illegal Aliens, when so many City’s and Towns in Massghanistan have been level fnded for years on State Aid, Chapter #90, and Chapter #70.

Yes, I am currently volunteering with our newly arrived American community and have shared my resources.
We are all Americans and world citizens. What does it say, especially during this holy season, if we turn our backs on the poor and displaced?
We need compassion and help for those seeking a better life.

Let the illegal aliens help themselves in their own countries. None of us are Jesus. Let the migrants turn to the one and only Jesus Christ instead of counting on all of us totally flawed sinners.

Stop believing the Trump doctrine of racism and hatred and learn to see people with compassion.

Let those seeking a better life, have them do it LEGALLY. Most Americans are compassionate and caring and are willing to help. But when ILLEGAL people benefit better than those that are willing to help them, something is wrong. I have said it before, the Massachusetts shelter law was enacted to help our citizens of the Commonwealth not ILLEGAL ALIENS.
