The Massachusetts State Police and local police are asking for the public’s assistance in locating a Massachusetts man in connection with a stabbing that occurred on June 7.

Troopers from the State Police Special Emergency Response Team, K9 Unit, Berkshire County Detective Unit, and Troop B are actively searching for 55-year-old Jeffrey Cote of Savoy for the second consecutive day.

Cote, who may be armed and should be considered dangerous, may be in Savoy or Cheshire.

At 5:03 a.m. Wednesday, the Adams Police Department requested assistance from the State Police-Cheshire Barracks in responding to a stabbing that occurred in their town. Subsequent investigation by local and State Police determined that the stabbing was a domestic incident that occurred at the victim’s home.

The victim, an adult female who was previously in a relationship with Cote, was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries but is expected to survive. Cote fled the scene prior to police arrival.

Various Massachusetts State Police units — including the Special Tactical Operations (STOP) Team, Crisis Negotiation Unit, Troop B patrols, and State Police Detective Unit for Berkshire County — responded to the suspect’s address, established a perimeter, and attempted to establish communications with him. MSP STOP Team operators made entry into Cote’s home and determined he was not present.

Anyone who has information about Cote’s whereabouts, or who sees someone matching his description, should not approach but, rather, should call 911 or the State Police-Cheshire Barracks at 413-743-4700 immediately.
