Massachusetts State Police, with the help of a K9, captured a man who ran from the scene of a crash on Route 24.

According to Massachusetts State Police, on Wednesday, at approximately 11:00 p.m., D Troop dispatchers notified the MSP Air Wing of a single vehicle crash on Route 24 Northbound near the exit for Route 104 in Bridgewater. D Troop communications personnel passed to the Lawrence based Air Crew that witnesses reported the male driver of the vehicle fled the scene while bleeding heavily.

Fearing for the man’s condition while losing blood on a frigid night, “Air 5” piloted by Troopers Kristopher Malm and Mark Giromini, along with Tactical Flight Officer Trooper Joseph Conley began to search for heat signatures from several thousand feet.

“Air 5” TFO Trooper Conley quickly identified a heat source in the woods with the aircraft’s forward looking infrared (FLIR). Trooper Conley then directed recent 87th RTT graduate Trooper Justin Smith and his Field Training Officer, with MSP K9 handler Trooper Brian Gervais to the location of what was likely a person, not moving, behind several trailers. The heat signature was indeed the male suspect who had crashed his vehicle on Route 24. Troopers were able to identify the man as 37-year-old Kenneth Rose of North Attleborough and placed him under arrest.

Before Troopers were able to call Bridgewater EMS to their location to evaluate Rose’s injuries, the injured man began violently lashing out toward Trooper Smith and others on scene, repeatedly threatening the Trooper’s lives while screaming and spitting. Rose was so combative that Troopers could only transport him to an area hospital in the rear of a marked cruiser.

Rose remained under arrest and in police custody while being treated. He will be arraigned at Brockton District court on the charges of Operation Under The Influence Of Liquor – 2nd Offense, Operation Under The Influence Of Narcotics, Leaving The Scene Of Property Damage, Operating a Motor Vehicle With Revoked License, Negligent Operation Of A Motor Vehicle, Assault And Battery On a Police Officer, Communicating A Threat, Attaching Plates, Operating Uninsured Motor Vehicle, and Marked Lanes Violation.
