Massachusetts State Police: 60-year-old killed, 34-year-old seriously injured in multi-vehicle crash

One person is dead, and another is fighting for his life after a multi-vehicle highway crash.

According to Massachusetts State Police, at approximately 5:00 a.m. Saturday morning, State Police patrols responded to a two-vehicle crash on Route 3 northbound in Weymouth that resulted in the death of one of the vehicle’s driver and serious injuries to her passenger.

Preliminary investigation indicates that a 2015 Lexus SUV and a 2020 Jeep SUV were involved in a collision in the northbound lanes near Exit 38 for Route 18. Circumstances surrounding the crash, and possible contributing factors are still being investigated.

The operator of the Lexus SUV, a 60-year-old Weymouth woman, was determined to be deceased on scene. The passenger of the Lexus, a 34-year-old male, sustained serious, life-threatening injuries and was transported to an area hospital. The victim’s names are not being released at this time.

The occupant of the second vehicle involved was transported to a nearby hospital as a precautionary measure.

The facts and circumstances of the crash remain under investigation by the State Police-Norwell Barracks, State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, and State Police Crime Scene Services Section.

All lanes of Route 3 northbound were closed between 5:05 a.m. and approximately 7:30 a.m.

Traffic was diverted with the assistance of Weymouth Police Department. The scene was cleared around 8:00 a.m.
