Massachusetts sets another COVID-19 daily case record as deaths, hospitalizations continue increase, FR 4th in state

Massachusetts saw yet another increase in hospitalizations, deaths, and active cases in Thursday’s COVID-19 report.

Massachusetts has seen 6,477 more positive cases announced today. An increase from Wednesday’s report that is a record number of daily cases. The 7 day weighted average positive test rate increased to 5.29%. The rate was 3.3 just over a week ago.

Today’s case numbers include 680 cases tested by one Massachusetts-based laboratory prior to December 1. The delay in reporting was caused by a technical issue with the software used by that laboratory’s reporting vendor.

Massachusetts had seen 4,613 more positive cases announced yesterday.

The Massachusetts Department of Health statistics show a rise in total confirmed cases to 232,264 with 49 more reported dead for a total of 10,874.

The overall amount of tests administered in Massachusetts is now 8,677,996 after 111,734 new molecular tests.

The 3 day average of COVID-19 deaths increased to 31.

Estimated active cases increased to 49,225.

Hospitalizations have increased in 59 of the last 80 days and 34 of the last 39, and increased by 65 to see the total raise to 1,324.

According to the December 3rd report, Fall River has a 75.3 Average Daily Incident Rate per 100,000 (Last 14 days) (92.3 last week) which is the fourth highest in the state. New Bedford sits at 48.3 (was 45.6). Westport is also in the red at 44.8 (was 49.0), Swansea is at 51.5 and was 69.0 last week, and Somerset saw a decrease to 50.1 (was 57.5). Freetown saw their rate increase as it now sits at 33.2 from 31.6. Dartmouth is currently at 47.7

Massachusetts residents subject to COVID-19 quarantine by current status up to December 2nd
• Total of individuals subject to quarantine: 126,742
• Total of individuals who have completed monitoring (no longer in quarantine): 115,755
• Total of individuals currently undergoing monitoring/under quarantine: 10,987

As of December 3rd, according to the CDC, the United States has seen 13,822,249 cases of COVID-19 with 272,525 reported deaths.
