The boyfriend of a Granby woman killed in an early morning July 1 collision in Granby has pled guilty to charges in the crash.

Katelyn Gress, 28, died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash that occurred at 1:15 a.m. July 1 near the intersection of Pleasant and Barton streets in Granby.

The driver of the vehicle, Cory Menard, 30, of Granby, pleaded guilty to motor vehicle homicide while operating negligently under the influence of alcohol and reckless assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, according to WWLP News.

Northwestern Assistant District Attorney Andrew Covington stated previously in court that before the crash, evidence gathered at the scene indicated that Menard lost control of his jeep, causing it to strike mailboxes and telephone poles before it rolled over several times and struck another car. The driver of that car was taken by ambulance to Holyoke Medical Center for treatment of injuries.

Menard was sentenced to two and a half years in prison followed by two years of probation on the condition that he avoids alcohol consumption, complies with a remote alcohol monitoring device, and provides a DNA sample. His driver’s license will also be suspended for at least 15 years.

Gress was remembered as an amazing mother and devoted her life to raising her daughter. The child is also Menard’s daughter.
