Massachusetts man found dead in fiery crash remembered as kind family man, services announced

A Massachusetts man who died Wednesday in a fiery crash is being remembered.

According to Massachusetts State Trooper Brandon Doherty, a vehicle drove into a building at 85 Patton Road in Devens at approximately 5:50 a.m. The building houses Taravista Behavioral Health Center. According to their website they treat individuals experiencing psychiatric distress and addiction.

The vehicle burst into flames; the driver, John M. Ahern, Jr of West Boylston, was discovered deceased inside the vehicle.

Those who knew Ahern described him as a hardworking man who loved his family and was a great father to his seven children.

An obituary noted that Ahern was known for his kindness and willingness to always help others. He leaves behind a wife of 23 years in addition to his children.

Firefighters, MSP patrols, detectives with Worcester County DA’s Office, State Fire Marshal’s Office fire investigators, and crime scene services personnel responded to the crash scene and are investigating.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 17th at 11:00 AM. The service will be at Our Lady of Good Counsel located in West Boylston. Visiting hours will be held at Fay Brothers Funeral Home, 1 W Boylston St. in WEST BOYLSTON on Tuesday, April 16th from 4-7 PM. In Lieu of flowers, the family asks to consider donating to Chelsea’s Hope Lafora Children Research Fund.
