Fall River Police arrested a man on multiple charges Saturday after he allegedly slashed a man and then bit him.

According to Captain Jay Huard, Officers responded to an apartment at 142 Elm Street, just before 9:30 p.m., for a suspected knife fight, where the victim’s ear was slashed.

The fight reportedly involved numerous individuals from Mexico and Columbia that were drinking beer. Officers required the use of a translator during the investigation.

Huard stated that it appears that the suspect, 23-year-old Joel L. Ramirez, attempted to lunge at the victim with a knife and tried to stab the victim. The victim blocked the knife-attack and put the suspect in a headlock. The suspect subsequently ended up biting the victim on the right forearm and right earlobe.

The injury is non-life-threatening and the victim, a 23-year-old man, was transported to Rhode Island Hospital.

Ramirez is being charged with Assault by means of a Dangerous Weapon (knife), Mayhem, Assault & Battery, and Possession of a Class B Substance (cocaine).
