A homeowner attempted to fight a fire at his home on Sunday.

According to the Dighton Fire Department, at 1:44 a.m. Sunday morning members of the Dighton Fire Rescue Department responded to 2477 Maple Swamp Road for a reported structure fire. Initial reports before crews arrived on scene was that one of the home owners was still in the house attempting to put out the fire. When Car 1 arrived on scene, Chief Maguy reported heavy fire and smoke was coming from a second floor window on the D side of the building and that everyone was out, and the homeowner was shooting water into the window from a garden house. Once crews arrived on scene they immediately made entry into the house and quickly knocked down the fire and contained it to the master bedroom. The master bedroom sustained a lot of fire damage, but the remainder of the house has a significant amount of smoke and water damage.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation by arson investigators Lieutenant Christopher Ready Dighton Fire Department and Detective Ryan Richards Dighton Police Department.

Chief Maguy thanked the Rehoboth Fire Department, Taunton Fire Department, Berkley Fire Department and the Providence Canteen for responding mutual aid to assist at the fire scene also to help cover our town. Also on scene was the Dighton Building Commissioner, Assistant Electrical Inspector, Dighton Highway Department (to sand the corner of Maple St and Oak St) and National Grid.

There were no reported injuries and all members of the Dighton Fire Department cleared the scene around 4:15 a.m..
