Fentanyl laced with cocaine becoming more common

Published

on

In the last several weeks, several arrests have been made in Massachusetts where possession of both fentanyl and cocaine have occurred.

Several deaths have also occurred nationally with the strong and potentially fatal mix. Authorities are warning residents.

In Brockton woman was found with cocaine and fentanyl.

A Weymouth man was found with over a pound of fentanyl and a pound of cocaine.

A Haverhill man was found with crack cocaine and fentanyl.

It’s not something new, but the trend is currently spiking, especially with occasional cocaine users. Non-regular opioid users are often more sensitive to even a small amount of fentanyl.

According to USA Today, in late May, Russell Baer, a DEA spokesman, confirmed that fentanyl is being mixed with cocaine in locations across the country.

At first it was spotty, now recent arrests in Massachusetts are confirming it has reached this area in larger numbers then before.

According to the New York Times, Fentanyl Deaths in the United States are up 540% in the last three years showing that the trend doesn’t appear to be slowing down.

Where is there evidence that these two substances are being mixed together? Just because a drug dealer is caught having both, does not automatically mean that they are being mixed together. Sure some of the end users are partaking in both, possibly at the same time, but it doesn’t serve dealers any interest in lacing their cocaine with fentanyl.

Drug dealers need their drug users to keep coming back for more – not dropping dead because the powder they sniffed wasn’t what they thought it was.

Fentanyl (and cocaine to a lesser extent) is a plague across the country that needs to be eradicated but these types of articles and artificial claims just scare and confuse the general public.
