Female pedestrian killed after being hit by vehicle on Route 195 in Westport

Massachusetts State Police are investigating an incident that took place on a Westport highway.

At approximately 10:15 p.m., Troopers and the Westport Fire Department responded to Route 195 East for a confirmed vehicle versus a pedestrian in the area of mile marker 15.7.

According to Massachusetts State Police, the preliminary investigation reveals a 2010 Ford Fusion was eastbound on Route 195, in Westport. Simultaneously and in the breakdown lane, a woman believed to have exited a different, as of yet unknown vehicle and started walking eastbound in the right travel lane of Route 195. The Ford then struck the pedestrian in the right travel lane.

The operator and passenger of the Ford remained on scene and were uninjured.

The pedestrian was determined to be deceased on scene. Her name is not being released at this time pending notification of next of kin.

The unknown vehicle the pedestrian was in prior to the crash was being operated by an as-yet unknown person who left the scene after the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
