A well-known owner of a Fall River barbershop is being remembered by his loved ones as he passed away this week.

According to girlfriend Lori Medeiros, the owner of Straight Edge on Pleasant Street, and known as “Master Barber”, Derrick Lewis, has died.

Medeiros stated that on July 1st while enjoying a family cookout and awaiting his arrival, Derrick was found unresponsive and was rushed to the hospital. Doctors informed her that “due to the lack of oxygen to his brain, there was serve swelling and no blood flow. Despite this news, the family had hope and made the decision to keep him on a ventilator. Derrick fought for 5 days.” On July 6th, with family by his side, his heart stopped.

Medeiros described Lewis as a genuine person, who would give you the shirt off his back if needed.

“He was kind and always had a smile on his face. When you saw D, you saw a can of Bud Light in his hand. He was the life of the party. For these reasons and many more, D was loved and well respected by everyone. Derrick may be gone, but he will never be forgotten.”

The family has created a GoFundMe to pay for funeral expenses.
