Fall River Police make 3 arrests which led to 27 indictments concerning 4 city shootings
Fall River Police have made three arrests concerning four city shootings that have resulted in a list of indictments.
According to Captain Barden Castro, on July 1, an 8 month long investigation by the Fall River Police Department Major Crimes Division, which was lead by Detective Luis Vertentes, with assistance of the department’s gang unit, resulted in a 27 count Grand Jury indictment.
The indictments involve four shootings, with two taking place on November 8, 2020 as well as two taking place on January 17 of this year.
On January 17 of this year, shots were fired into a home on Charles Street as well as a vehicle on North Eastern Avenue a short time later.
Due to an investigation by Fall River police officers and detectives, three individuals were identified as the suspects.
32-year-old Carlton Albert, 24-year-old Malik Staten, and 29-year-old Alex Castillo were indicted for the four shootings and have been arrested.
The 27 indictments covered the following charges:
Malik Staten
Carrying/possessing a non-large capacity firearm in public without an LTC (3 counts)
Carrying a loaded firearm in public unlicensed (3 counts)
Possession of class D with intent to distribute
Operation of a motor vehicle with a suspended license
Defacing personal property (2 counts)
Discharge of a firearm within 500 feet of a building

Chief of Police Jeffrey Cardoza stated that, “It does not matter how long it takes or how many resources are needed. We will identify and incarcerate those using illegal guns in Fall District Attorney Quinn, Detective Vertentes, and the Major Crimes Division for their relentless follow up on these shootings.”
